This 2-day Singapore itinerary covers the two areas almost every first-time visitor actually wants to see — Marina Bay’s skyline landmarks and the older, denser neighborhoods around Chinatown and Little India — without the rushed, everything-in-one-day feeling that comes from trying to see the whole city at once.
Day 1: Marina Bay and the Civic District
Start at Gardens by the Bay in the morning, when the Cloud Forest and Flower Dome are coolest and least crowded, then walk the Supertree Grove. From there it’s a short walk to Marina Bay Sands — even without a SkyPark ticket, the mall and waterfront promenade are worth the detour. Continue around the bay to Merlion Park for the classic photo, then into the Civic District to see the National Gallery and the Padang’s colonial-era buildings. Save the evening for the Marina Bay at night route — the Spectra light show and the skyline lit up are genuinely better after dark than during the day.
Day 2: Chinatown, Little India, and Orchard Road
Spend the morning in Chinatown, starting at the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple before it gets busy, then wandering the street markets on Pagoda Street. Take the MRT a few stops to Little India for lunch and a walk around the Sri Veeramakaliamman Temple and Tekka Market — the contrast between the two districts, twenty minutes apart by train, is one of the best arguments for splitting your time this way rather than sticking to one part of the city. In the afternoon head to Orchard Road for shopping and air-conditioned relief from the heat, then close the trip with dinner in whichever district you liked best.
Getting between everything
All of the stops above sit on or near the MRT, so this itinerary doesn’t require a car or constant Grab bookings — see our guide to getting around Singapore and to the EZ-Link card and transit passes for exactly how to pay as you go. Budget roughly S$120–180 a day per person for this pace — see our Singapore daily budget guide for the full breakdown.
If you have more time
Two days is enough to hit the highlights, but it leaves out Sentosa Island entirely and only gives the cultural districts a single afternoon each. If your trip allows it, see our 3-day Singapore itinerary, which adds a full day on Sentosa without cutting anything from these first two days.
Where to stay for a 2-day trip
With only two days, staying centrally matters more than usual — every hour spent commuting back to a hotel is an hour lost from the itinerary. Marina Bay, the Civic District, or Orchard Road all put you within a short MRT ride or walk of everything on both days, which is worth the typically higher room rate compared to staying further out. Chinatown and Little India also work well as a base, and tend to be cheaper, since Day 2 starts right there and Day 1’s stops are only a few MRT stops away.
